Do’s and Don’ts

Here are some quick tips for interactions with prospective students and families that we’ve collected over the years:

Do’s

  • Share personal anecdotal stories regarding your experiences as a Mudder.
  • Encourage students that seem a good fit to apply for admission
  • Contact the Office of Admission if you aren’t sure about an answer to a question
  • Be genuine and honest about your HMC experiences, but also remember that your experience does not represent HMC as a whole.
  • Have fun!

Don’ts

  • Reference other schools (e.g., Stanford, Caltech, MIT, etc.) if at all possible. Students might ask you to compare HMC with other institutions. Encourage those students to explore all the colleges and universities they are interested in to find the right fit for them.
  • “Chance students”- Students might ask you what “chance” they have of getting in based on their statistics. Please inform them we have a holistic and contextual review process and no one, not even an Admission Officer, can 鈥減redict鈥 their chance of admission.
  • Share your stats. In the same vein as the tip above, try not to share your own SAT scores, GPAs, acceptances, etc.
  • Guess at information that you are not sure about. The best response to questions you鈥檙e unsure about is to encourage families to look at our website and/or contact our office.
