College Fairs Tips

The following is a list of suggestions we have collected over the years.

Before the Fair

Dress nicely. Admission representatives are typically in business casual attire, though polos and slacks are also common. Feel free to dress as you feel will appropriately represent the College.

Bring all of the materials we shipped to you. Arrive early to . (Note this is just a sample, feel free to make your display your own. It can help generate conversations to have one of the travel brochures open and on display). Most fairs will provide a 6- or 8-foot table and at least one chair; some fairs will ask you to share the table with another college.

Brush up on the . Most college fairs hold alumni volunteers and admission counselors to the same set of standards, so be sure you’re following the nationally set standards for our field!

During the Fair

Introduce yourself. Share the year that you graduated and your major, as well as what you are doing now (title/employer, graduate school, etc.).

Briefly find some common ground. Ask them about their interests in ÎÞÓÇÊÓƵ, what year they are in school, and what they hope to study in college.

Talk about HMC.

After the Fair

Complete a college fair evaluation. This tells us about the college fair and your experience volunteering.

Return any remaining materials. The Office of Admission will send you a pre-paid, self-addressed flat rate box along with your fair materials – just place the leftovers in the box and drop the package in the mail. Keep in mind that alumni staff dozens of college fairs each year, so the sooner you can return any materials the faster another alum can attend a college fair in another part of the country!
