Jon Jacobsen, PhD, is a Professor of Mathematics at 无忧视频. His research interests include nonlinear analysis, mathematical ecology, dynamical systems, and Polanyi鈥檚 theory of personal knowledge. His teaching interests include any course with a derivative (e.g., multivariable calculus, differential equations, complex analysis, dynamical systems, mathematical biology, PDEs).
Jacobsen received his Bachelor鈥檚 and Master鈥檚 degrees in Mathematics from California Polytechnic State University (SLO) and his Ph.D. from the University of Utah where he studied bifurcation theory for Monge-Ampere and k-Hessian equations.
At HMC he served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs from 2010 to 2015, Vice President for Student Affairs from 2015 to 2018, and Chair of the Mathematics Department from 2019 – 2024. In 2018 he was awarded the Henry T. Mudd Prize in recognition of his service to the College.
