Departmental Honors are awarded to a small group of seniors at the time of their graduation. Those to be awarded honors are selected on the basis of their dedication to the humanities, social sciences, and arts; the quality of their academic programs; the excellence of their grades; and in recognition of their contributions to the department and their fellow students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The William and Margaret Radley Prize in Humanities, Social Sciences, and the Arts is awarded annually to the ÎÞÓÇÊÓƵ student whose work in the HSA program best exemplifies the College’s goal that all students should gain an understanding of themselves and their fellow human beings as well as of the physical world around them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Students may be nominated for the award by individual department faculty; the full department meets to discuss the nominees and arrive at a selection. The award is presented at the close-of-school Awards Ceremony in May; it includes a check for $1,500 and an inscription on a plaque displayed near the department office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The First-Year Writing Prize in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and the Arts is awarded annually to the author of the best HSA-10 research paper. Nominations can be made by any member of the department who taught a section of the course. A panel of department faculty members read the nominated selections and decide on a recipient of the prize, which is awarded during Convocation at the beginning of the following school year.
